The Punjab Textbook Board's Urdu primer for Class 1 as printed in March 1984: the alphabet with colour pictures, practice words and short passages, complete in 32 scanned pages.

Urdu ka Qaida is the Punjab Textbook Board's Urdu primer for Class 1, in its printing of March 1984 (first edition, first impression). This PDF is a colour scan of the complete printed book: 32 pages from cover to cover, with printed pages 3 to 31 all present.

The primer teaches the Urdu alphabet letter by letter, mostly two letters to a page, each with a colour picture, its joined forms and a few practice words and short sentences: alif and alif madd (anar, aam), bay and bhay, pay and phay, and so on through to noon, hay, hamza and the aspirated letters. A page on the vowel signs zabar, zer and pesh comes in the middle, and short reading passages follow the letters. The last page is a dua, "Ya Rab hamein naik bana".

All rights are reserved with the Punjab Textbook Board, Lahore, which prepared the book; it was approved by the Government of the Punjab, Education Department (circular No. SO(C) 10-1/72, dated 5 December 1973) and revised by the National Review Committee of the Federal Ministry of Education. Authors: Prof. Syed Waqar Azeem, Dr. Asghar Ali Sheikh, Mirza Maqbool Baig Badakhshani, Nazir Ahmad Asim, Bashir Ahmad Chauhan and Muhammad Ishaq Jalalpuri (convener); supervised by Zahid Mahmood Qureshi. It was published for the board by Ibrahim and Sons, Lahore, and printed by New Kamran Printers, Lahore; the back cover gives 450,000 copies and a price of Rs 2.25.
