About this book

The Punjab board's compulsory Urdu textbook for Class 11 (Intermediate Part I), Sarmaya-e-Urdu: 14 prose pieces, 13 poems and 14 ghazals with exercises and a glossary, complete in 121 pages (2012-13 session).

Sarmaya-e-Urdu (Urdu Lazmi) is the Punjab Textbook Board's compulsory Urdu textbook for Class 11 (Intermediate Part I, first year). This copy is a scan of the printed book of the 2012-13 session: 121 pages, with 14 prose pieces, 13 poems, 14 ghazals and a glossary.

The prose section opens with Syed Sulaiman Nadvi's Uswa-e-Hasana and includes Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's Apni Madad Aap, Hali on Sir Syed's character, Hameed Askari's Abul Qasim Zahrawi, the stories Adeeb ki Izzat by Premchand, Overcoat by Ghulam Abbas, Sifarish by Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi and Charagh ki Lau by Hajra Masroor, letters of Ghalib and Iqbal, Patras Bukhari's Lahore ka Jughrafia, Shafi Aqeel's Dosti ka Phal, and pieces by Ibn-e-Insha and Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi. The poems run from a hamd by Ameer Minai and a naat by Mahir-ul-Qadri to Nazeer Akbarabadi, Mir Anees, Zafar Ali Khan, Akhtar Sheerani, Hafeez Jalandhari, Allama Iqbal, Syed Muhammad Jafri, Mirza Mahmood Sarhadi, Dilawar Figar and Mast Tawakali. The ghazal section gives two ghazals each by Mir Taqi Mir, Aatish, Dagh, Momin, Hasrat Mohani, Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi. Every piece is followed by a mashq (exercise) with multiple-choice items, short questions and passages to explain, and the farhang at the end gives word meanings lesson by lesson.

The book was compiled by Muhammad Zubair Sahi, Prof. Ayaz Asghar Shaheen and Dr. Muhammad Khan Ashraf and edited by Prof. Iftikhar-ud-Din Sohail and Prof. Hafeez Siddiqui; it was approved by the National Review Committee of the Federal Ministry of Education. The imprint reads first edition, 18th impression, May 2012, published for the board by the PTB Employees Welfare Society, Lahore. The copy is complete (printed pages 1 to 116); it is a scan of a used book with a few handwritten notes in the margins.
