Wo kuchh aur shai hai, mohabbat nahin hai

Sikhati hai jo Ghaznavi ko Ayazi

About this nazm

On love. The martyr of love is neither one camp nor the other, and love's ways are neither Turkish nor Arab. What teaches the king Ghaznavi the devotion of his servant Ayaz is something else, not love. Without this essence, knowledge and wisdom are only glasswork. Love neither needs kings nor fears them; it is freedom and self-sufficiency. The poet's poverty is better than Alexander's empire: one makes men, the other only makes mirrors.
