ہے یہی میری نماز، ہے یہی میرا وضو

میری نواؤں میں ہے میرے جگر کا لہُو

Hai yahi meri namaz, hai yahi mera wuzu

Meri nawaon mein hai mere jigar ka lahu

About this nazm

A prayer written in the Mosque of Cordoba. The poet's songs, carrying his heart's blood, are his prayer and his ablution. On the road of love no one is anyone's companion; only his longing stays with him. His nest is not the court of nobles and ministers but God alone, who lights the fire in his chest and is both his wish and his search. Without Him the city is empty. He asks for the old wine again, gently complains that God keeps the boundless for Himself and gives him four directions, and ends: what are philosophy and poetry but a wish that cannot be spoken face to face?
