سیر کر عندلیب کا احوال

ہیں پریشاں چمن میں کچھ پر و بال

Sair kar andaleeb ka ahwal

Hain pareshan chaman mein kuchh par-o-baal

About this ghazal

A short, quiet ghazal of the garden after loss: a nightingale's scattered feathers, a nest that was here last year, fresh grass on the roadside trodden down the moment it raises its head. Mir ends with a famous image — the eyes wept so much in the night that his handkerchief became a patch of cloud. One couplet is not included here.
