jahan ab khaar-zaaren ho gai hain

yaheen aage bahaaren ho gai hain

junoon mein khushk ho rag-haa-e-gardan

girebaan ki si taaren ho gai hain

isi darya-e-khoobi ka hai ye shauq

ki maujen sab kanaaren ho gai hain

About this ghazal

A short ghazal on change and tears. Where thorny wastes stand now, Mir recalls, there were once whole springs. In madness the veins of the neck have dried into something like the threads of a torn collar; longing for that river of beauty has turned every wave into a shore. In the closing couplet the poet remembers how, when he used to weep in these very lanes, his tears became the streams of several rivers. 1 couplet of the original is not included here.
