ہو عاجز کہ جسم اس قدر زور سے

نہ نکلا کبھو عہدۂ مور سے

ho aajiz ki jism is qadar zor se

na nikla kabhu uhda-e-moor se

About this ghazal

A short ghazal in a light metre. Be humble, Mir begins, for even with all its strength the body has never managed as much as an ant. Someone must have been left far behind, since the caravan bell is crying out so loudly; and the poet begs the rain cloud to pour hard on his burning dust. When the one who burned for the beloved was laid to rest, a wisp of smoke rose from the edge of the grave. Distrusted in that lane, he has become worse off than a thief, and without the beloved he sees nothing at all. The closing couplet asks the morning breeze, if Mir is in that lane too, to ask after him warmly on the poet's behalf. Given in full.
