About this ghazal

A ghazal of scents and burning. A fragrance heads for the garden and the breeze carries a whiff of it; the darkness in the city is such that even the sun goes out by day carrying a lamp. Every dawn, misfortune sets out with a cup of blood meant for the poet, and the scorched ground of the beloved's lane still holds the trace of burnt hearts. The closing couplet guesses why the wind smells sweet: perhaps it has brushed against those locks. 2 couplets of the original are not included here.
