About this ghazal

A short ghazal built on the refrain "aziz koi tha", someone dear. Last night a sweet-voiced bird was lamenting, and it was someone dear; the patience that could bear your cruelty was dear too; the thought of the beloved in the heart was a dear guest in the house. In the closing couplet Mir, now lifeless in the beloved's lane and treated like a thorn, reminds us that he too was once someone dear. 1 couplet of the original is not included here.
