Shayad tu samajhti thi watan door hai mera

Ai qasid-e-aflak! nahin, door nahin hai

Hota hai magar mehnat-e-parwaz se raushan

Ye nukta ke gardun se zamin door nahin hai

Manind-e-sahar sahn-e-gulistan mein qadam rakh

Aaye tah-e-pa gauhar-e-shabnam to na toote

Ho koh-o-bayaban se ham-aghosh, va-lekin

Hathon se tere daman-e-aflak na chhoote!

About this nazm

"Morning in the Garden", a short exchange. The flower tells the dew, messenger of the skies, that its home is not far away; the dew answers that only the labour of flight shows that earth is not far from heaven. Morning closes: step into the garden like the dawn, so softly that the dew's pearls do not break; embrace mountain and desert, but never let go of the sky's hem.
