Dil larazta hai harifana kashakash se tera

Zindagi maut hai, kho deti hai jab zauq-e-kharash

Us junun se tujhe taalim ne begana kiya

Faiz-e-fitrat ne tujhe dida-e-shahin bakhsha

Jis mein rakh di hai ghulami ne nigah-e-khuffash

Khalwat-e-koh o biyaban mein woh asrar hain fash

About this nazm

A poem on what schooling can take away. The present age, the poet tells the student, has taken his spirit by handing him worry about a living; his education has cut him off from the bold passion that refused excuses. Nature gave him a falcon's eye, but subjection gave it a bat's sight, and the secrets the school hid from him lie open in the solitude of mountains and deserts.
