Hanse roye phire ruswa hue jage bandhe chhute

Gharaz hum ne bhi kya kya kuchh mohabbat ke maze loote

Kaleje mein phaphole dil mein daagh aur gul hain hathon par

Khile hain dekhiye hum mein bhi ye ulfat ke gul-boote

Tafawut kuchh nahin gulchin mein aur be-dard khooban mein

Jo us ke haath gul toote to un ke haath dil toote

Hazaron galiyan deen phir zara hans kar idhar dekha

Bhala itni tasalli se phaphole dil ke kab phoote

Zaban ki kar ke miqraz aur bana dushnam ka kaghaz

Hamare haq mein kya kya aap ne katre hain gul-boote

Jab us ki umr ko lashkar ajal ka aan kar loote

Hamari rooh to phirti hai mashooqon ki galiyon mein

Nazir ab hum to mar kar bhi na is janjal se chhoote

About this ghazal

A ghazal that sums up love's whole round in its opening line: laughing, weeping, wandering, disgraced, sleepless, bound and set free. Blisters and scars bloom like flowers, and heartless beauties break hearts the way a flower-picker breaks flowers. In the closing couplet even death brings no release: the poet's spirit still wanders the beloved's lanes. 1 couplet of the original is not included here.
