About this ghazal

Don't ask about the ruin of the heart's kingdom, Mir begins: lately griefs have laid that whole settlement waste. One glance from those intoxicated eyes spoiled the sweetness of wine and brought down the tavern itself. At dawn the poet asks a rose what became of the nightingale, and it points to a handful of feathers lying in the garden; and the beloved is so delicate that walking to the garden in the shade on a moonlit night left them feverish. 3 couplets of the original are not included here.
