Dhoonda na paaiye jo is waqt mein so zar hai

Phir chaah jis ki mutlaq hai hi nahin hunar hai

Har dam qadam ko apne rakh ehtiyat se yaan

Ye kaar-gaah saari dukan-e-sheesha-gar hai

Said-afgano hamare dil ko jigar ko dekho

Ik teer ka hadaf hai ik tegh ka sipar hai

Ahl-e-zamana rahte ik taur par nahin hain

Har aan martabe se apne unhen safar hai

Kaafi hai mohr-e-qatil mahzar pe khoon ke mere

Phir jis jagah ye jaave us ja hi mo'tabar hai

Har koi janta hai is raah mein khatar hai

We din gaye ke aansu rote the Mir ab to

Aankhon mein lakht-e-dil hai ya para-e-jigar hai

About this ghazal

In these times what cannot be found is gold, and what nobody wants is skill. Mir warns that the whole world is a glassmaker's shop where every step must be careful, shows a heart that is target for arrow and shield for sword at once, and ends with eyes that no longer shed tears but pieces of the heart. Two couplets of the ghazal are not included here.
