Sikandar o Changez ke hathon se jahan mein

Sau bar hui hazrat-e-insan ki qaba chaak

Tarikh-e-umam ka yeh payam-e-azali hai

'Sahib-nazaran! nasha-e-quwwat hai khatarnak'

Is sail-e-subuk-sair o zamin-gir ke aage

Aql o nazar o ilm o hunar hain khas o khashak

La-din ho to hai zehr-e-halahil se bhi badh kar

Ho din ki hifazat mein to har zehr ka tiryak

About this nazm

Conquerors like Alexander and Genghis tore the robe of humanity a hundred times; history's lasting message is that the intoxication of power is dangerous, and reason and learning are straw before its flood. Power without faith, the poet says, is worse than poison, but guarded by faith it becomes the antidote to every poison.
