Bachcha-e-shahin se kehta tha uqab-e-salkhurd

Ae tire shahpar pe aasan rif'at-e-charkh-e-bareen

Hai shabab apne lahu ki aag mein jalne ka naam

Sakht-koshi se hai talkh-e-zindagani angbeen

Wo maza shayad kabootar ke lahu mein bhi nahin

About this nazm

An old eagle advises a young falcon: the heights of the sky come easily to your wings. Youth means burning in the fire of your own blood, and hard striving turns the bitterness of life into honey. The real joy, my son, is in the swoop on the pigeon, perhaps more than in the pigeon's blood itself.
