About this nazm

A short poem on captivity. For a lofty nature, the poet says, being held only adds to its worth: the raindrop shut in the shell becomes a pearl, and a drop of blood becomes musk inside the deer's pod. It ends with a Persian couplet: crows and kites are never caught or kept, that honour is given only to the falcon and the shaheen.
