سمجھے تھے میرؔ ہم کہ یہ ناسور کم ہوا

پھر ان دنوں میں دیدۂ خوں بار نم ہوا

Samjhe the Mir hum ke ye nasoor kam hua

Phir in dinon mein deeda-e-khoon-baar nam hua

About this ghazal

Mir thought the old wound was healing, but the blood-weeping eyes are wet again. The ghazal moves from the beloved's sudden kindness and the ruin worked by a single glance to a sober close: the world stays with us only while we live, and so many dear friends have gone into the dust. Three couplets of the ghazal are not included here.
