About this ghazal

The dawn lament has risen past the foundations of the sky, and Mir curses the longing of this heart that ruined his house. His life hangs in his eyes, yet the beloved will not spare a single glance; at every step on the road to the beloved's house a hundred ruined lovers lie buried. He begs the beloved, for whom swordplay is a game, not to take an innocent life, and to lift that trailing hem, since some wronged person may be lying in wait. The ghazal ends with Mir's wry warning to himself: don't fall ill as long as you live, or your endless sighing will keep everyone awake. 2 couplets of the original are not included here.
