چلتے ہو تو چمن کو چلئے کہتے ہیں کہ بہاراں ہے

پات ہرے ہیں پھول کھلے ہیں کم کم باد و باراں ہے

chalte ho to chaman ko chaliye kahte hain ki baharan hai

paat hare hain phool khile hain kam kam baad-o-baran hai

yaani musibat aisi uthana kaar-e-kaar-guzaran hai

About this ghazal

One of Mir's most-sung ghazals: if you are going out, come to the garden, for they say spring is here, the leaves are green, flowers are open and a light rain falls. From the colour dripping in the air the poem turns to love's wounds, and ends with Mir's pride that, unlike Farhad and Majnun, he never ran off to the wilderness because he cares for his good name.
