Al-Farooq

Al-Farooq (الفاروق) is Allama Shibli Nomani's biography of Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second caliph of Islam. Published in 1898, it is one of the best-known works of Urdu prose on early Islamic history: Shibli draws on the early Arabic histories and describes not only Umar's life and the events of his caliphate but also how the state was run in his time — its administration, finances, courts and public works.

The book is in two parts: the first follows Umar's life and caliphate, the second his policies, institutions and character.
