The Murder of History

The Murder of History is a book by the historian Khursheed Kamal Aziz, better known as K. K. Aziz. It is a close critique of the history taught to students in Pakistan: Aziz examines 66 textbooks of Social Studies, Pakistan Studies and History used in schools and colleges, from class 1 up to class 14.

For each book he looks at what it says, and then at its errors of fact, its omissions, its slanted interpretations and the way its mistakes are passed on from one book to the next. He also considers what this teaching means for the students who learn from these books and for how a country understands its own past.

The book is widely read by students of history, teachers and anyone interested in how the history of Pakistan is written and taught, and it remains one of the most discussed works on the subject.
