About this ghazal

The ghazal that opens Ghalib's Urdu divan. Every figure in the picture wears a paper robe, as a complainant would, and asks whose playful pen drew it. The ghazal goes on to the long nights of loneliness, the force of longing, the limits of speech, and the poet who stays restless even in chains.
