Umera Ahmed
Umera Ahmed's much-loved Urdu novel of faith, guidance and second chances, following Imama Hashim and Salar Sikandar.
Peer-e-Kamil is one of the best-known Urdu novels of recent decades, written by Umera Ahmed. It follows two young people in Pakistan whose lives are changed by questions of faith: Imama Hashim, a determined young woman who breaks with her family's beliefs because of her own conviction about the finality of prophethood, and Salar Sikandar, a gifted but restless young man who has everything except a sense of purpose.
Their paths cross at a moment of crisis, and the novel follows each of them over many years as they search for guidance, pay the price of their choices and slowly learn what it means to surrender to a higher will. The title, "the perfect guide", points to the novel's central idea: true guidance is found in the Prophet ﷺ rather than in any worldly figure.
Readers return to Peer-e-Kamil for its emotional storytelling, its memorable characters and its reflections on sincerity, repentance and trust in God. Its story continues in Umera Ahmed's later novel Aab-e-Hayat.
