About this book

Marmaduke Pickthall's 1930 English translation of the Holy Quran, one of the most widely read for nearly a century — in a scan of a 1930 printing.

The Meaning of the Glorious Koran is Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall's English translation of the Holy Quran, first published in 1930. Pickthall, an English novelist who embraced Islam in 1917, regarded it as his life's main work, and he called it the meaning of the Quran rather than the Quran itself, which he held cannot be translated. Its dignified, slightly archaic English has kept it among the most widely read English translations for nearly a century.

Each surah opens with a short introduction on its setting, followed by the translation of its verses.

This copy is a scan from the Digital Library of India of a printing its record dates to 1930.
