Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall (1875–1936) was an English novelist and scholar who embraced Islam in 1917. He took a two-year leave from 1928 to complete The Meaning of the Glorious Koran (1930), one of the most widely read English translations of the Quran, which he regarded as the summit of his life's work.
