Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (1863–1943) was a scholar, jurist and writer from Thana Bhawan in British India, where he spent most of his life teaching and writing after his studies at Darul Uloom Deoband. He wrote widely on tafseer, fiqh, hadith and the inner life: his Quran commentary Bayan-ul-Quran (1908), the household guide to Islamic practice Bahishti Zewar, the book of supplications Munajat-e-Maqbool and the life of the Prophet Nashr-ut-Tayyib are still read across Pakistan and India.
